North American Solar Academy

North American Solar Academy’s mission is to deliver the highest quality education in Solar PV Design and Installation. Our program is divided into two components; a two-day hands-on program and an online e-learning which is a separate course that prepares you to write the NABCEP Associates exam. The students learn the science behind solar power, electrical basics, performing site evaluations and the function and integration of all components of a solar powered system, both grid tied and off grid.

No, the online is a prep course for the NABCEP Associates Exam.

Very good question: yes, it is. The technology has advanced so quickly and become so user friendly that what we focus on is How Solar Works, System Design and Installation. The systems have essentially become “Plug and Play”.

Yes, there is a certificate issued from both the in-person training as well as the online portion. When you have successfully completed the online course through our training partner Heatspring you will be qualified to write the NABCEP Associates exam.

No, you do not need to have any prior knowledge about any of the material taught. We start from the beginning of how solar works right through to getting on a roof and installing a fully operational system. We have taught 90 year old retirees to High School students.

The class is taught at the International Centre at 6900 Airport Rd. We have been teaching at this facility for the past 10 years. The rooms are spacious and there is plenty of parking; it is a very professional environment.

We never comment on someone’s ability to get a job, we do not know you personally and are not familiar with your past work experience, therefore we never promise work or a person’s ability to find work. We can say that the solar industry is always looking for competent and trained people.

You will be taught all the relative knowledge to design and install solar powered systems. In Ontario there is no designated “Solar Installer” profession that is regulated. You will need an electrician to assist with the installation and follow all federal and provincial requirements for permitting.

No, we supply all needed safety equipment as well tools.

Yes, please click on the link to learn more. Course Outline

No, you do not need to be an electrician to learn the course material, the course does cover electrical basics, and you will learn wiring techniques. To do an actual installation; other than your own property you will need an electrician to do the hard wiring of the project.

Excellent question, especially when you are sending significant funds over the internet. We have been in operation since 2015. The offices are located in Northern Ontario, but we teach in Mississauga at the International Centre. If you are concerned and want verification, please call the International Centre to verify our history and that we have booked a space for the listed dates.

Yes, however the full amount must be fully paid before the class starts, we do require an initial minimal deposit of 25%.

Yes, we do this on a regular basis, the course is completely mobile, and we travel across North America to deliver the course.

No, the online can be done before or after the in-person. The online course through Heatspring is a separate course, this is a prep course to pass the NABCEP Associates exam.

Great learning experience and excellent value for money! The training has extensive theoretical and practical hands-on parts. I would highly recommend to anyone taking this course, to carefully study the online part prior to in-person classes. A lot of material is covered, so if you are not familiar with basic terms like inverter, grid, optimizer, can be overwhelming. A huge bonus for this training is that it is recognized by NABCEP and CSA "Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems Certification". Scott is very patient and knowledgeable. Thank you Scott for a great learning and networking experience!

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Scott for sharing his vast knowledge and expertise in solar systems. His hands-on training approach is truly impressive, with an actual roof assembly inside the classroom that allowed my fellow students and me to physically mount racking systems, solar panels, and even hook up inverters and batteries. Thank you!

I had a really fantastic experience training with the North American Solar Academy - Scott is a fantastic teacher, and I found the entire program to be invaluable to me in my path towards coordinating solar energy installations for our community. We learned all about solar panel systems and how they work, how battery systems can integrate, and we even had the opportunity to practice hand on skills in installing solar panels on rooftops, on ground arrays and on pole arrays! Scott made sure the content was very manageable for all levels of experience, from lay people like myself all the way through to the certified electricians and project developers, and the course was full of technical explanations and practical advice on the things you need to understand when entering the field of solar energy systems. I highly recommend this program to anyone looking to get into Solar PV energy systems, either personally or professionally, as you will find invaluable information and learning support through this program! Thank you so much for a really great learning experience, Scott!

As I am strongly considering a future in Alternative Energy. I Recently attended the NASA weekend course, thought by Scott Seidel. The course materials provided was delivered well and easy to follow, Scott answered all question to give us a clear understanding before moving on. The hands-on portion of this course was a great chance to experience solar installations, we did roof, poll, ground mounts and strung up couple different systems which gave us a good idea of proper installation method. If you have an interest in solar, this is an ideal course to guide you on your path.

Recently I attended the NASA practical and theory weekend hosted in Toronto at the International Centre. The material provided and delivery of the course by Scott Seidel was top notch. Scott provided grid tie (net metering) and off grid practicals. As a group we also mounted panels using three different methods. Roof mount, ground mount and pole mount. This course is an excellent segway into the solar industry. I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in the solar industry/trade. Thanks again Scott.

I had a great weekend with Scott and my class mates. Leaning about the theory, the steps, the systems and business side of it all. We also had the opportunity to get some hands on training, learning how to set up the different racking systems and roof top application and how to hook it all up. Scott also took the time to make sure that we all understood each step, he was very patient and he made sure we understood before moving forward. Amazing experience! Much Appreciation Scott! Cheer, Alex

Thanks Scott! Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the course. I came into the course as a complete neophyte and your instructional style made the material very easy to approach. The online course was a great introduction and the two day course, with its practical component, really helped to make the knowledge concrete.
