Operation & Maintenance Training

How Solar Works

The students will learn solar basics of how sunshine is converted into electricity. How silicon cells within a panel work and the operation and structural parts of solar panels. Electrical basics will be taught; what is a Watt, Volt, and Amp; and their relationship to each other as well as Ohms Law. They will understand the units of measure such as peak sun hours and the effects of shading, tilt angles and direction to south and how these variables affect production. System design will be taught, the students must understand how these systems are put together.

Identifying System Components

The students will learn all the parts of a system, grid tied and battery based systems.
1. Solar modules(panels)
2. Inverters
3. Disconnects
4. Breakers and fuses
5. Combiner boxes
6. Wiring
7. Module racking and the
different choices
